Senior Scientist, Meshing

Irvine, CA

Position Title: Senior Scientist, Meshing

Department:      R&D, Algorithm

Reports to:         CTO

Position Overview:

The Senior Scientist, Meshing will be a key contributor to the continued development and enhancement of meshing algorithms for our Cardiac Electrophysiology Mapping System. This role will focus on improving heart geometry reconstruction by advancing meshing algorithms and collaborating closely with engineers and scientists to integrate them into real-time applications. This will involve requirement generation, prototype, design, and implementation algorithms, test system implementation, and clinical data analysis.

Duties and Responsibilities

The following are the major responsibilities needed for the role.  Additional responsibilities, tasks, and duties will be assigned and required as needed.

  • Maintain and advance meshing algorithms for reconstructing a heart surface from point clouds, including triangulation, smoothing, resampling, and hole filling.
  • Develop geometry editing tool to support segmentation, labeling, and merging of different structures.
  • Validate, refine and optimize meshing algorithms to improve accuracy, efficiency, and clinical applicability.
  • Evaluate, adapt, and enhance prototype algorithms developed by internal teams and external consultants.
  • Work closely with the software engineering team to ensure computational efficiency and real-time performance of implemented algorithms.
  • Rapidly prototype and test algorithms for feasibility and performance
  • Document design requirements and updates throughout the entire system life cycle.

Experience, Education and Skills Required

Below are the minimum skills, formal education, certifications or training, and practical experience required to perform the general functions and duties of the role.

  • Typically requires a minimum of 3 years of related experience and a Bachelor's and/or Master's degree,
  • and/or PhD in a scientific/engineering discipline; or equivalent combination of education and experience.
  • Strong expertise in computational geometry, mesh processing, computer graphics, vectors mathematics and transforms.
  • Solid expertise in linear algebra, differential equations, and trigonometry.
  • Experience in discrete or differential geometry is a plus.
  • Experience with cardiac anatomy and electrophysiology is a plus
  • Experience with MATLAB, C/C++, MeshLab, and CGAL.
  • Prior experience with cardiac anatomy and electrophysiology is an advantage but not required.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concept effectively to both technical and non-technical teams.
  • Strong problem-solving skills, proactive mindset, and ability to adapt to a fast-pased R&D environment.
  • Demonstrate independent thinking, collaboration, and innovation in algorithm development and research.
  • Experience integrating algorithms into real-time applications.
  • Previous exposure to medical imaging, computational modeling, or biomedical engineering.
  • Familiar with regulatory process and documentation.
